</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.ruemag.com/issues/issue-four/" target="_blank">Rue Issue 4</a> is now live. To be honest, I've literally flicked through this issue as time is not on my side this morning - a pesky thing called work is getting in the way. The cover is appealing to me, I love the tones. Unfortunately it relates to a fashion spread rather than an interiors related story but all the same, it's a lovely cover.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Issue 4 definitely deserves further perusal. Go look for yourselves & I will definitely be spending more time (what's time?) on this issue when I return home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">I love blogs. My suspicion is that you all do too. Writing posts can bring the blogger great satisfaction & usually involves a deep passion for the subject matter. I assume that all bloggers have maybe not a sense of pride about their posts, but surely a sense of ownership & a desire to be recognised as the author of their work.</div></div><div><br />
</div><div>This leads me to a pet peeve about blogs that I am noticing more & more. How many times do you read a post that is accompanied by wonderful pictures? You see a pic whether it be of a product you want to know more about, in our cases perhaps an interior you want to know who designed it or see more from that particular shoot, but yet there is no credit on the image as to who took the photo, where it's from or a link back to where it was originally found. This can be so frustrating for all, none so more as the person who has originally created the image whether it be the photographer or stylist responsible.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Think about the hard work you put into creating your blog posts. Is it fair if someone copies your hard work & posts it on their blog without giving credit where it is due? Of course not. So why does this practice seem to be so pervasive within the blogosphere when it comes to photo crediting? <a href="http://www.frolic-blog.com/frolic/frolicabout.html" target="_blank">Chelsea Fuss</a> at the blog <a href="http://www.frolic-blog.com/frolic/" target="_blank">Frolic!</a> kick started this discussion in a big way a couple of weeks ago with this <a href="http://www.frolic-blog.com/frolic/2011/03/blog-talk-crediting-photos.html" target="_blank">post</a>.</div><div><br />
</div><div>The ensuing result of that great post by Chelsea & it's interesting comments was this flow chart poster that I find to be a wonderful reminder of photo crediting etiquette. It's a collaborative effort by a number of fantastic bloggers. See the credit below the image for links to the other super women.<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">Another post on the issue that may be of interest to you is <a href="http://www.designspongeonline.com/2011/02/biz-ladies-photo-usage.html" target="_blank">this one</a> from <a href="http://www.designspongeonline.com/" target="_blank">Design Sponge</a>. Also, this <a href="http://www.notquitewrong.com/rosscottinc/2011/01/13/see-something-cite-something/" target="_blank">post</a> by <a href="http://www.notquitewrong.com/rosscottinc/" target="_blank">Rosscott, Inc.</a> features a less "clean" flow chart expressing a similar sentiment (may offend some due to language). It is a joint endeavour of <a href="http://systemcomic.com/" target="_blank">The System</a> & <a href="http://loldwell.com/?page_id=2" target="_blank">H. Caldwell Tanner</a> of <a href="http://loldwell.com/" target="_blank">Lodwell.com</a>.</div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div>To my mind, it comes down to a number of main points. I think the first & most common reason is pure laziness. Some bloggers just can't be bothered or they are new to blogging & perhaps a bit naive to the topic.</div><div>The second reason I imagine, is despite the loveliness & support of the blogging population, there are those who choose not to credit just to protect their resources. This is the "competitive" side of the blogging world rearing its' ugly head. To have the best pictures for everyone to ooh & ah over, one must protect where they find their pics from! It is subtle, but I have no doubt it happens.</div><div>The third is, you simply don't know where you found the pic. Now I have been guilty of this & never really considered it be a problem. I was being honest, I did not know where the pic was from. But, I was wrong. Those images have resulted from the hard work of numerous people & it certainly isn't fair to use an image if I can't give those people the recognition they deserve.</div><div><br />
</div><div>This issue has been on my mind for a while now. The number of posts where I have seen images credited to <a href="http://weheartit.com/" target="_blank">we heart it</a>, <a href="http://www.tumblr.com/" target="_blank">tumblr</a>, <a href="http://www.flickr.com/" target="_blank">flickr</a>, <a href="http://www.google.com/" target="_blank">google</a> & even my beloved <a href="http://pinterest.com/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> is amazing. I use the net & read blogs mainly to be inspired but also to glean information & store it for future reference. If something isn't credited, it just makes the task of finding the information so much more laborious.</div><div><br />
</div><div>I am trying my hardest to give credit where it is due. I've found <a href="http://www.tineye.com/" target="_blank">TinEye Reverse Image Search</a> to be quite useful in some but not all cases.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-DmbAQ1smoaE/TYLg9REQeCI/AAAAAAAACUQ/8pUSkH0we6I/s1600/tin+eye+logo.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-DmbAQ1smoaE/TYLg9REQeCI/AAAAAAAACUQ/8pUSkH0we6I/s200/tin+eye+logo.png" width="200" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><a href="http://www.comptalks.com/" target="_blank">Computer Talks</a> has a brief post on the top ten reverse image search tools <a href="http://www.comptalks.com/top-10-reverse-image-search-engines/" target="_blank">here</a> if you want to check out some others. Reverse image search engines are definitely worth a look if you are serious about crediting unknown images or just to find the source of that beautiful image for your own information. I'm even going to the extreme of trawling back through my posts to give credit to the amazing people who play such a huge role in all of our blogs. You may from time to time see an old post reappear in your reader. I apologise if this annoys you, but I do feel it's an important thing for me to go back & credit the pics. I'm even trying to do it for my 5,000 + images on <a href="http://pinterest.com/ampersanddesign/" target="_blank">my boards</a> at <a href="http://pinterest.com/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>!<br />

It's located on the tropical idyll of Hamilton Island, off the northern East coast of Australia. The brief given to architect <a href="http://www.dettorrearchitects.com.au/" target="_blank">Renato D'Ettore</a>, by the American owner, was for "a three-bedroom house". What a three-bedroom house 'Solis' is! Check it out.<br />

The home, photographed by <a href="http://www.hallieburton.com/" target="_blank">Hallie Burton</a> & with interior design by <a href="http://gvinteriors.com/" target="_blank">Ghislaine Vinas</a>, is a whopping six storey kaleidoscope of vibrant colour. Belonging to curator & gallery owner <a href="http://paigewest.typepad.com/about.html" target="_blank">Paige West</a>, the home's design brief to Vinas, was composed of a thematic guide based on two pieces. These two pieces were a huge <a href="http://www.lisaruyter.com/" target="_blank">Lisa Ruyter</a> painting which now hangs in the kitchen & a close-up photograph of a brilliantly hued budgerigar which West showed the designer.<br />

I've included it anyhow, both for those who haven't seen it & also because I think it's fab. It belongs to shoe designer <a href="http://www.brianatwood.com/" target="_blank">Brian Atwood</a> & was designed by his then boyfriend <a href="http://nateberkusdesign.com/" target="_blank">Nate Berkus</a>. Photographed by <a href="http://www.simonupton.com/" target="_blank">Simon Upton</a>, this top floor 20s apartment home is located in Italy's fashion capital Milan.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Welcome to <a href="http://dabblemag.com/" target="_blank">Dabble</a>, the newest kid on the lifestyle e-magazine scene. As the cover shows, this is essentially an e-magazine with an equal mix of design, travel & food.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Founder & Editor in Chief Kimberley Seldon of <a href="http://kimberleyseldon.com/" target="_blank">Kimberley Seldon Design Group</a>, has gathered together a team of contributors who are highly qualified in their respective industries. As a result, the premiere issue of <a href="http://dabblemag.com/" target="_blank">Dabble</a> is one of consistently high quality information.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The travel section is also wonderfully informative as is the food section. But as I'm mainly interested in design I've only chosen to show you an eclectic peek at some of the interiors shown in the issue.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://covetgarden.com/" target="_blank">Covet Garden</a> Issue 8 is now live. This issue takes a look at the Toronto west-end home of Tomi & Karim. The light, bright, calm space has been largely renovated by Karim who is an editor, director & compositor with Tomi, a graphic designer, adding her touch in the finishes.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Tomi's sparse design & the pale blue palette contribute greatly to the sense of calm & relaxation which this 100 year old home evokes. Although sparsely decorated, the objects to be found in the home reflect the couples' history & cultural backgrounds (Karim's Moroccan heritage & Tomi's Croatian roots).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's a lovely abode that I imagine all who walk through its' door instantly feel at home in.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://covetgarden.com/" target="_blank">Covet Garden</a> continues to bring us "real" homes. Go check it out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://matchbookmag.com/" target="_blank">Matchbook</a> Issue No. 2 is now live. I like the cover of this issue more than the first as I find it more contemporary & the colour really grabs my attention. The cover of the first issue was more dated than I had hoped.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I've had a brief flick through the 168 page issue and it looks very interesting. Highlights of this issue includes interviews with some very interesting people such as <a href="http://www.pamelakeogh.com/" target="_blank">Pamela Keogh</a> - author of Audrey Style, Jackie Style, Elvis Style & the recently released Are You A Jackie Or A Marilyn? I own the first three books & must say that if you are an Audrey fan, the Audrey Style book is wonderful.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Other personalities of note to be found are fashion's "prince of colour" - <a href="http://www.chris-benz.com/" target="_blank">Chris Benz</a>, who is this issue's cover subject. Graphic design maven, <a href="http://abbyclawsonlow.com/" target="_blank">Abby Clawson Low</a>, who previously worked as the Senior Art Director for the Kate & Jack Spade brands features also. Abby now heads her own design studio HI + LOW as well as being a partner of <a href="http://partnersandspade.com/" target="_blank">Partners & Spade</a> which is Andy Spade's & Anthony Sperdutti's studio & concept store.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Okay, this issue review has been a long time coming. Initially I wasn't overly impressed with the issue but I must admit my opinion of it has somewhat improved since my initial flick through the magazine. Still, it's probably one of my least favourite issues of late.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The first home I am featuring from this issue belongs to stylist Tara Sloggett & is yet another cottage which seems to be Real Living's favourite type of abode recently. Although a beach house of traditional looking facade, it's anything but traditional once you venture inside. A mix of modern & vintage items, along with the occasional quirky piece, sit within a white canvas full of light. A beachy yet neutral aesthetic dominates which allows for a degree of versatility to mix things up easily without major redecorating required.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The next home belongs to city dwellers Julia & Andre Stadler & their two children, Max & Gabriella. Julia & Andre hoped to find & create an oasis within a bustling city. The home definitely has a tropical holiday house vibe that is enhanced by its' north facing aspect. Originally bought 10 years ago as a three-bedroom, one bathroom home with a dingy flat downstairs, the home has been extensively renovated, reconfigured & partially extended to open up the house for a light, airy feeling of space. The addition of a pool & decking has also added to the relaxed holiday atmosphere of the home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The final home I am featuring from the magazine belongs to Jennifer Carpenter. Jennifer's home is a 1930s cottage which is only 93 sq m, but therein lies its' charm. It is small & cozy, but of manageable size for its' sole occupant. A gorgeous home that has been decorated with help from Jennifer's friend from her student years, interior designer Ariel Ashe. Citrus colours punctuate the white interior bringing a liveliness to a home filled with an eclectic mix of vintage & contemporary items for a retro modern style.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_AmzdJU5CyWE/TUlLo0ZIjWI/AAAAAAAACO4/vbFmbT3H5GA/s1600/pg+072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_AmzdJU5CyWE/TUlLo0ZIjWI/AAAAAAAACO4/vbFmbT3H5GA/s320/pg+072.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I love the brass accents throughout the home & the mix of textures, from the Venetian plastered walls in the living room to the flokati, leather, hide & rattan items. Also coveting the outdoor tulip chair in the last pic.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://covetgarden.com/" target="_blank">Covet Garden</a> Issue 7 is now live. This publication usually garners raves from me, but this issue left me a little disappointed. Although I found the couple featured, Alexx & Paul, very interesting & highly likeable, I wanted to see more of their home. This issue is probably the lightest of all <a href="http://covetgarden.com/" target="_blank">Covet Garden</a>'s issue with respect to photos of the home's interior.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The quality of the production is first class, the writing is excellent & the subject matter always intriguing.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.pageflipper.com/Catalogue/351364f5cc8446d8a29774525b7d38ca" target="_blank">Adore Home</a> is a relative newcomer to the lifestyle e-magazine stable. You wouldn't know it based on the cover of this issue, but <a href="http://www.pageflipper.com/Catalogue/351364f5cc8446d8a29774525b7d38ca" target="_blank">Adore Home</a> is an Australian based title.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The British Edition is in fact the third issue of this title. Although heavy on all things Britannia, as you would expect in a British Edition, it's not one just for the Anglophiles. Several prominent Aussie bloggers feature in this issue such as Kellie from <a href="http://www.adaanddarcy.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Ada & Darcy</a>, Louise from <a href="http://tabletonic.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Table Tonic</a> & Viv from <a href="http://www.ishandchi.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">ish & chi</a>. Also there's a fabulous kids rooms feature & the homes shown are of "real" people & styles that are attainable whatever your budget may be. There is a mouthwatering High Tea feature which not only has delicious recipes, but equally sumptuous photos. The travel section definitely beckons one to London especially in the Spring/Summer - I need to go back!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm overwhelmed by the number of quality lifestyle/interiors e-magazines that are now available. I'm proud that Australia is at the forefront with a publication like <a href="http://www.pageflipper.com/Catalogue/351364f5cc8446d8a29774525b7d38ca" target="_blank">Adore Home</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Congratulations to founder & creator of <a href="http://www.pageflipper.com/Catalogue/351364f5cc8446d8a29774525b7d38ca" target="_blank">Adore Home</a>, designer Loni Parker on a fantastic issue. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Issue 3 of <a href="http://www.ruemag.com/issues/issue-three/" target="_blank">Rue</a> has just gone live. The cover I must say is not to my taste. Although a beautiful pic in its' own right, I think there a numerous better options to be found throughout this issue.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I've had a quick flick through, & there appears to be numerous closeup shots. A broader perspective would have been nice to get an overall feel of some of the spaces showcased. The first half of the issue was skim worthy, but the issue really picks up in the second half. Some of the interiors are very lust worthy indeed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The third & final home I am featuring from Belle is a former 50s-style duplex in the exclusive enclave of Vaucluse, Sydney. Originally bought as a knock-down opportunity, the owners, Janine & Tony Adams, relented after factoring in cost & time & after their two exceptionally smart teenage children encouraged them to retain & renovate the existing structure. A hodge podge of styles from different eras (bottom part of the building was a 30s bungalow that had been renovated in the 70s), were amalgamated by <a href="http://www.phillipshenningham.com/" target="_blank">Phillips Henningham Architects</a> to evoke the dominant 50s aesthetic.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<div>Another Aus interiors magazine hit the news stands today. Home Beautiful for February 2011 features a summer coastal look (surprise, surprise, surprise as Gomer Pyle would say) on its' cover & to be honest I don't expect great variety in theme on interiors covers for the Summer months. More pics to follow soon.<br />
<br />
I forgot to mention that I have enabled a new comment system that allows me & any other commenter to reply directly to any comments within the thread rather than at the end. It does involve any commenters entering an email address, but that information is not published anywhere. I understand that it takes a little more of your time to comment now, but I think the flow of comments will be easier to read. I appreciate your understanding.</div><div><br />

Haven't I been a slack blog mummy? I have neglected my blog baby to nearly the point of abandonment. DOCS (Department of Child Services) was on the verge of being called.<br />
Hopefully I will recommence the year, feeding, caring & loving my blog baby as she deserves. I seem to have gotten my mojo back. The end of the year always drains me & sends me into a funk both physically & emotionally - work just sucks the life out of me.<br />
<br />
Anyhow, I'm excited to be back & boy, do I have a lot of catching up to do! I think I have at least 7 Australian magazines or possibly more to peruse thoroughly & dissect for you all before the new lot start arriving. I've even let all my subscriptions lapse, that's how bad the end of year has been for me! I usually take out two year subscriptions & for the past 18 years or so I have been a consistent Vogue Living subscriber (my longest subscription). Oh the shame I feel.<br />
<br />
In recognition of my return & also for the amazing 32 people who, at the time of this post, have added me to their blog readers & stuck with me through my inconsistent posting, I am giving away two invitations to <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>. Besides the end of the year, <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> seems to be taking up more & more of my time. It is highly addictive. I am finding it so easy to collect images & organise them. It's a fantastic tool that has freed up a lot of space on my hard drive & also led to loads of new discoveries - blogs, people, products etc.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="100" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AmzdJU5CyWE/TSWlv-715QI/AAAAAAAACKE/DvcEgkTuQXI/s320/pinterst-logo.jpg" width="320" /></div><div style="text-align: left;">If you are interested in one of the two invites, just post a comment by Friday 21st January midnight (Australian Eastern Standard Time). I will randomly draw two people for the invites. Please note, this giveaway is only open to my fabulous "fellow design aficionados" i.e. followers. Feel free to follow if you wish to be eligible for the invite giveaway.</div><br />
Also, I'd love to get to know a little more about you all. If you have a blog, post the link in your comment. If you are already a "Pinner" I would still love to hear from you & would love to check out your boards, so let me know who you are on <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>.<br />
